Gas Balloon vs. Hot Air Balloons:
There is often a fair amount of confusion between a hot air balloon and a gas balloon. Gas balloons are very different from the hot air balloons we fly at Vista.
While hot air balloons rely on on board burners to heat up air in order to generate lift, gas balloons are filled with a gas (helium or hydrogen) that is lighter than air, therefore providing lift. Gas balloons are an exceedingly rare breed, both as a result of the unstable nature of certain gases used (hydrogen is highly flammable), as well as the expense of others (it can cost up to $4,000 to fill a helium gas balloon).
